Where engagements start

The situations that start a conversation with BD-S

Most buyers come to us living with one of these. Each can begin as a short discovery, a defined project or a specialist inside your own team.

A legacy system only one person understands

The workflow is critical, the documentation is thin and the knowledge is about to walk out the door. You need it understood, then moved to a supported platform.

A transformation program that stalled

The program produced a strategy and a report but no working system. You need delivery, not another round of analysis.

A compliance deadline with no technical path

The obligation and the date are fixed. The system changes needed to meet them are not yet defined, and the clock is running.

A licensed platform not yet operationalised

Dynamics 365, Power Platform or Salesforce is licensed and provisioned, but the business is still working the old way.

Service 01

Advisory and discovery

A structured discovery method, planned backwards from your deadline rather than forwards from a start date.

Discovery runs Orient, Elicit, Specify, Package. We read your published material before day one, book the full stakeholder schedule in week one and write up every session within two working days. We assume the current state is partly undocumented and price for it, so the engagement does not stall waiting for artefacts that may not exist.

Discovery method

  1. Step 1: Orient
  2. Step 2: Elicit
  3. Step 3: Specify
  4. Step 4: Package

Typical outputs: Current-state assessment, options analysis, target architecture, costed roadmap and a delivery-ready scope.

  • Planned backwards from your deadline, not forwards from a start date
  • Your published material read before day one
  • Full stakeholder schedule booked in week one
  • Every session written up within two working days
  • Undocumented current state assumed and priced for
  • A senior practitioner leads the work and stays for delivery

Architecture and design

Configure first. Build on proven platforms.

We start with what your platform already does, then design the configuration, data, integration and security around your organisation's needs. We use custom development where it adds clear value.

Hosting, data residency and AI processing requirements are agreed during design. Solutions use customer-approved platforms and services, with security controls and human oversight appropriate to the use case.

Typical outputs: Solution architecture, data model, integration design, security model and environment design.

  • Data residency by design: hosting regions and data-handling requirements agreed for the selected services
  • Platform assurance: relevant vendor assessments and assurance reports considered during platform selection
  • Governed AI architecture: AI services selected to suit the use case, customer environment, data requirements and security obligations
  • Security from the start: access roles, least privilege and auditability designed into the solution
  • Proven integration patterns: established platform capabilities reused wherever appropriate

Engineering and implementation

Configuration-led delivery built from accelerators and out-of-the-box components. Custom code is the last resort, not the starting point.

We build from what exists: the Salesforce Self-Service Portal Template, Power Platform model-driven apps with native offline capability, OmniStudio and SmartIQ for forms. Custom code is written only where the platform cannot do the job, and it is documented so your team or another supplier can maintain it. You are not locked into BD-S for ongoing maintenance.

Typical outputs: Configured environments, integrations, forms and portals, with the source and documentation in your tenant.

  • Industry accelerators and templates before custom build
  • Model-driven apps with native offline for field and remote staff
  • OmniStudio, SmartIQ and Form.io for enterprise forms
  • Integration through Azure Integration Services and MuleSoft
  • Custom code reviewed, documented and handed over as yours
  • Australian-led delivery with BD-S governance and accountability

Program and project delivery

Senior-led and right-sized for the engagement, not a large-firm program with layers of governance and junior staff.

BD-S is an SME. The people who scope the work are the people who do it, and governance is sized to the risk of the engagement rather than to the size of the supplier. You get the artefacts a program office expects without paying for a layer of account management, and the requirements traceability matrix links every requirement to a test and a deliverable, so scope, evidence and acceptance stay connected from discovery to go-live.

Typical artefacts

  • Project plan
  • RAID log
  • Fortnightly steering
  • Status reporting
  • Requirements traceability matrix
  • One accountable delivery lead who was in the discovery
  • Fortnightly steering with decisions, risks and spend in one report
  • Every requirement traced to a test and a deliverable
  • Milestone or fixed-scope commercials, agreed before the work starts
  • Co-delivery with your own team and other suppliers where the program needs it

Testing, data migration and DevOps

Migration in four phases with reconciliation at each one. Environments, pipelines and source that stay under your control.

Data migration runs Profile, Map, Trial, Cutover, with reconciliation reports at each stage against agreed variance thresholds. Where the platform supports incremental change data extract, such as Microsoft Fabric Link for Dataverse, reporting is available from day one rather than after go-live. Test plans trace back to the requirements, and user acceptance testing is run with your business owners, not for them.

Data migration discipline

  1. Step 1: Profile
  2. Step 2: Map
  3. Step 3: Trial
  4. Step 4: Cutover
  • Reconciliation reports at each migration stage against agreed variance thresholds
  • Reporting from day one where the platform supports incremental extract
  • Multi-environment promotion: Dev, Test, UAT, Pre-Prod and Prod
  • Automated CI/CD for solutions, packages and integration code
  • Test plans traced to requirements, with UAT run alongside your business owners
  • You retain full control of your tenant, environments and source

Training, knowledge transfer and transition

You should be able to operate the system without ongoing dependence on BD-S.

Knowledge transfer is a structured deliverable, not a handover meeting on the last day. Training covers platform administration, business configuration changes and reporting, with role-based documentation for administrators, business owners and support staff. If you want us to stay, Managed Services picks up from the same documentation and environments.

Typical outputs: Training plan and materials, role-based documentation, transition plan and a support handover.

  • Platform administration training for your internal owners
  • Business configuration changes your team can make without a supplier change request
  • Reporting and analytics training on the data model you now own
  • Role-based documentation for administrators, business owners and support
  • Transition plan into your support model or into BD-S Managed Services

Engagement models

Four ways to buy the same senior team

Buy focused advice, a defined outcome, capacity inside your own team or an ongoing service. Each model is tagged with the lifecycle stage where it applies, and you can move between them as your needs change.

  1. 01

    Consult

Clarify direction before committing delivery spend.

    • Strategy, architecture and roadmap
    • Use-case discovery and options analysis
    • Governance, assurance and executive advice

    Lifecycle stage: Discover

  2. 02

    Project

Deliver a defined outcome with accountable controls.

    • Fixed scope or milestone-based delivery
    • Design, build, test and transition
    • Governed delivery with senior practitioner oversight

    Lifecycle stage: Deliver

  3. 03

    Augment

Extend your team with targeted specialist capacity.

    • Specialists embedded into your delivery model
    • Flexible capacity for peak demand or scarce skills
    • Knowledge transfer and continuity of capability

    Lifecycle stage: Deliver and Operate

  4. 04

    Managed Services

Sustain performance and continuously improve after go-live.

    • Ongoing application support and operational management
    • Minor enhancements and continuous improvement
    • Release, incident and service management
    • Proactive optimisation with accountable service governance

    Lifecycle stage: Operate

Discover, Deliver, Operate

Which engagement model applies at each stage

Every engagement follows the same shape. The models map onto it so you can see where to start, and how to move between them without changing supplier or losing the people who know your platform.

  1. Stage 01: Discover

Understand the problem, the current state and the options before committing delivery spend.

    Engagement models that apply

  2. Stage 02: Deliver

Design, configure, migrate, test and transition a defined outcome on a date.

    Engagement models that apply

  3. Stage 03: Operate

Support, secure and improve the platform, and keep the knowledge inside your organisation.

    Engagement models that apply

  • A Consult engagement produces the scope a Project delivers, with the same people carrying across.
  • A Project transitions into Managed Services using the documentation and environments it produced.
  • Augment runs alongside either, inside your own team, for as long as the skill or capacity gap lasts.

Delivery that also counts towards your Indigenous procurement targets

BD-S is an Aboriginal-owned, Supply Nation Certified, female-owned SME. Engaging us counts towards Commonwealth Indigenous Procurement Policy targets, the NSW and Queensland Indigenous procurement policies and social procurement weightings in other jurisdictions. BD-S is also NSWICC Assured, FACC Assured and a member of the NT Indigenous Business Network.

Through the Indigenous Digital Impact Program, BD-S invests its professional services and technical capability alongside First Nations organisations, partnering this year with up to four on tailored Dynamics 365, Power Platform or Copilot solutions. Delivery is local, from offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Darwin, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra, not fly-in.
